Chartres. The Chartres Cathedral. South side. Left side bay depicting Martyrs. Four other Martyrs, representing the deacon Saint Vincent, Saint Denis, the Bishop of Paris, Saint Piat and the Priest Saint Georges. The latter is the counterpart of Roland. They are attired in the style of the Knights at the time under Saint Louis. Under each of the eight statues is a general depiction of small scenes which recount the extent to which the Saints were made to suffer as punishment. The statue of Saint Georges also depicts the wheel to which he was attached.
