La rue de Rivoli
Title

La rue de Rivoli

Caption

La rue de Rivoli is situated in Paris's 1st and 4th arrondissement. The road measures nearly 3 km from the rue de Sévigné to the place de la Concorde, crossing the place des Pyramides. The road's north side is lined with archways for most of it's expanse. The western part of the road (that meets with the archway section) was built under the First Empire; the east stretch was added during Haussmann's renovations of the city, connecting it to the rue Saint-Antoine and consequently creating a major road running from east to west in the centre of Paris. The road is named after an Italian town that was the site of a victory won by Napoleon Bonaparte over Austria in 1797.
