The Louvre in Paris. The Courtyard of the Louvre. Statue of Sarrazin (Noyon, 1588/1592 Paris, 3rd December 1660) was a french classical sculptor. He was installed in Rome from 1610 1627, at the service of a french sculptor who specialised in wood, Jean Languille. He associated himself with Baroque artists: above all with the bolognese painter Dominiquin (Domenico Zampieri) and the flemish sculptor François Duquesnoy. Married in 1631 to Simon Vouet's niece, he worked for ten years under his orders. After this he participated in the construction of the Louvre after the Fronde (French civil war); and was put in charge of the decoration of the palace from 1639 to 1642. He was one of its' founders (1648), then the Director of the branches of painting and sculpting pertaining to the Royal Academy between 1654-1660.
