Octave Farnèse, in italian Ottavio Farnese, Duke of Parma (1521 1586), second son of Pierre Louis Farnèse. Pope Paul III, with Cardinal Alessandro Farnese and the Duke Ottavio Farnese "Le Titien", 1546, National Museum of Capodimonte (in Naples). Ottavio Farnese was the son-in-law of Charles Quint, having married his daughter Margaret of Austria in 1538. In 1547, he became Duke of Parma and Piacenza after his father's death. However, these territories were not obtained easily, and without the complaints of his grandfather, Pope Paul III, who believed he was a rightful claimant to the duchy territories, and supported by his step-father, the Emperor. It was only after 1556 that he was able to peacefully enjoy his inheritance, and was worshipped by his subjects during his reign. He died in 1586. 19th Century engraving.
