Legend of Saint Denis. Reproduction of a miniature from the original manuscript presented to King Philip V of France in 1317: Faced with the growing success of Saint Denis, the pagan priests decided to take action by sending delegates to Rome to Emperor Domitian to plead their case against this new religion. The latter sent Governor Fescennius Sisinnius and a troop of soldiers to restore order.
