Andrea Becchi (1848-1926); “Truciolo a Carpi”; olio su cartone, cm. 25,5 x 40.

Andrea Becchi (1848-1926); “Truciolo in Carpi”; oil painting on panel, cm. 25,5 x 40.
In the 18th century, Carpi was home to the art of creating shavings, or very thin strips of wood taken from willow and poplar trees. These were then woven together to make hats, which were then known as "cappelli de treza de legno" (wooden shaving hats). This was a 16th-century invention by Nicolò Biondo of Carpi.
