Fidenza, duomo (Cathedral of San Donnino), façade, sculptures between the left portal and the main portal: “The Flight of the Three Wise Men”.
The slab, set in a Greek fret frame carved into the adjacent slabs, depicts the three Wise Men riding from left to right. On the upper adjacent slabs, the names of the three characters are engraved in capital letters: CASPAR BALTASAR MELCHIOR (Gaspar Baltasar Melchior).
The fact that the star that guided them to Jesus – represented by a (damaged) disk carved in the upper left corner – is behind them, leads us to assume that the three characters are moving away from the place of the meeting with the Messiah, obeying God's warning not to return to Herod (Mt 2:12).
