Medici Riccardi Palace, Gallery of Mirrors (or Room Luca Giordano): “The Allegory of Justice”, detail of the vault.
Frescoes by Luca Giordano, 1682 - 1685.
Virtue, portrayed while receiving the crown from Fame, has a sword and scales in her hand; next to it are Clemenza and Security. On the rock below sit Punishment, a man with rod and sword, and Prize, a man holding a cornucopia of treasures. With them there is also an ostrich (symbol of patience), while on the ground are Deceit (the person on the left who hides his head, with legs similar to the tail of a snake and holding flowers in his hand inside which he is hidden a snake and with a tiger), Discord (the figure blowing the fire with the bellows) and Conflict (with a snake on his arm).
