Monreale Cathedral, apse: the Christ Pantocrator; Byzantine mosaic.
Christ is portrayed in a majestic and severe attitude, in the act of blessing with the three fingers of his right hand, according to the use then remained in the Orthodox church.
The mosaics of the Cathedral were made between the twelfth and mid-thirteenth century by partly local and partly Venetian workers, trained at the Byzantine school.
