Syracuse, The Archaeological Park of the Neapolis of Syracuse: the entrance to the Ear of Dionysius (or Dionysus).
The Ear of Dionysius (or Ear of Dionysius) is an artificial cave located in the ancient stone quarry called the Latomia of Paradise, under the Greek Theatre of Syracuse. Excavated in limestone, it is about 23 m high. and 5 to 11 m. wide, and 65 m. deep, with an S-shape that makes it a place of acoustic amplification of sounds (up to 16 times).
According to the legend, Caravaggio gave it its name. According to tradition, the tyrant Dionysius had the cave excavated and he locked up the prisoners and he listened to their speeches.
