(dpa) - French painter and sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle (filer of 27 September 1996) died at the age of 71 in San Diego, USA, 21 May 2002. According to her family, she suffered a long and heavy illness of the lungs, because of poisonous vapours she was exposed to during her work. The Parisian-born artist became famous for her oversized Nana-sculptures. [dpabilderarchiv]
