Propaganda text on the back of the picture for National Socialist report: "The famous House of the Blackheads is about to be rescued from complete destruction. Bolshevists have set the Latvian capital Riga alight shortly before their flight. Old parts of town with German construction culture in particular have fallen victim to their destructive fury. As well the House of the Blackheads was destroyed, the facade is supported by scaffoldings to prevent it from collapse and to reconstruct it."
Motive from the Eastern front / Latvia from the 10th of September in 1941.
The German attack of the Soviet Union was going under the alias "Operation Barbarossa" and started on the 22nd of June in 1941.
Whereas German troops were at first welcomed by the population, hatred developed later and off-loaded in a brutal guerilla war.
