A military policeman from the 9th US armoured division of the 1st Army in front of a sign on one of the pillars of the bridge over the Rhine in Remagen (Germany).
It reads "Cross the Rhine with dry feet. Courtesy of 9th Armored Division", a military joke after the surprise capture of the bridge, which had not yet been destroyed by the Germans.
