Built by the naval sh ipyards of the Southwest in Port-de-Bouc (finished in 1932), this 2,156-ton advice-boat belonged to the Bougainville class, which counted eight units. Captured by the British in Great Britain on July 3, 1940, the "Savorgnan de Brazza" was turned over, shortly thereafter, to the Free French Naval Forces under whom it distinguished itself brilliantly throughout the whole World War II.
It participated in the Dakar affair in September 1940, as well as in the capture of Gabon by the Free French Forces and the British.
