Title
The men in Louis XI’s inner circle
Caption
Louis XI, an extremely suspicious man, entrusted his safety and secrets to men who could only betray him if they themselves stood to lose everything. Olivier, his barber, was part of this inner circle. He was sometimes nicknamed ‘Le Daim’ (as he was in charge of Louis XI’s hunting grounds), and sometimes ‘Le Diable’ (reflecting his reputation at court and his ability to scheme behind the scenes).
