After a five-year break, orange trees are once again in Dresden's Zwingerhof. A total of 52 Italian bitter oranges are set up. Since 2017, the Zwingerhof has been home to the so-called bitter oranges again. The bitter orange trees were purchased in Italy and recall the history of the Zwinger as an orangery. Under Augustus the Strong, there were once 1, 700 orange trees in Dresden's Zwinger. The arched galleries served as winter quarters. Back then, being able to cultivate sensitive plants north of the Alps was considered a sign of power and wealth, Dresden, Saxony, Germany
