Aerial view of the Schwarzenbach dam near Forbach was almost completely drained in April 2026 for extensive inspection and expansion work. This is the fourth time in its 100-year history (after 1935, 1952 and 1997) that the dam has been completely drained. The authorities expressly warn against walking on the empty reservoir bottom, as the muddy ground is not stable in places.
