Interim storage: The long road to the KONRAD repository The radioactive waste produced during the operation and dismantling of nuclear facilities is stored temporarily at VKTA. To this end, VKTA operates the Rossendorf interim storage facility for all types of solid radioactive waste. This waste remains here until it is transferred to a federal repository, Rossendorf, Saxony, Germany
