Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany - The Emscher has been completely free of wastewater since January 2022 following the construction of a parallel sewer. On the right, the Emscher at the bridge Am Bugapark at the mouth of the Schwarzbach, was previously an open, above-ground wastewater sewer, combined sewer with surface water and wastewater.
