Caption

Adult male prairie-chicken displaying at lek with other males. Males gather together in groups to compete for and attract females that are ready to breed. The female chooses the best male of the group, an example of female choice among birds. The male inflates his red throat pouch, erects yellow feathers above the eyes, lifts the long feathers at the back of his neck, and stamps his feet while booming.
