Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 in Shrewsbury - 19 April 1882) . British natural scientist. Caricature of Darwin as a monkey from 1871. His theory of evolution, which has since been confirmed by genetics, makes him one of the most important natural scientists of all time.
