Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky (1821 - 1881) Russian writer, historical Russia. Dostoevsky is one of Russia's most outstanding writers. He addressed the political and social conditions of the time with psychological sensitivity. This also brought him into conflict with the authorities. The drawing shows the mock execution of other defendants on 22 January 1849. Dostoyevsky was arrested in the early hours of 23 April 1849 and sentenced to death. The death sentence was commuted to years of forced labour and imprisonment in a fortress
