Protest camp against deforestation... Hambach Forest became a nationally recognised symbol of resistance against the expansion of lignite mining and the fight against climate change and global warming. Large parts of Hambach Forest were cleared to make way for RWE's open-cast mine. For years, environmental and climate activists lived in tree houses in the forest to protest against the deforestation.
