Several callers reported a fire with heavy smoke on Bergerstraße in Mülheim-Menden at 2.57 pm today, Saturday. When the first emergency services arrived, they discovered that the roof truss of a two-storey residential building was fully engulfed in flames. Due to the expected long and intensive operation, a full alarm was immediately sounded for the volunteer fire brigade. There were no residents in the house. Firefighters from the professional fire brigade immediately began fighting the fire from the inside and using a turntable ladder. As the operation progressed, they were supported by colleagues from the Heißen fire brigade of the volunteer fire brigade. Once the actual fire had been extinguished, the post-extinguishing work proved to be quite complex and lengthy. Parts of the roof have to be removed in order to reach any remaining embers. The ongoing operation involved two fire engines, several special and command vehicles from the professional fire brigade as well as vehicles from the fire service
