Pruning is one of the most important tasks of the entire wine year. It takes the longest and accounts for around a third of the total work in the vineyard. Pruning lays the foundations for the quality of the new vintage as early as winter. For more than three months - from mid-December to the end of March - the 300, 000 or so vines are pruned individually by hand each year. Around 20 cuts are required per vine, totalling an impressive six million per year. Here, viticulture manager Till Neumeister at work at the Belvedere, Radebeul, Saxony, Germany
