The Herne 4 Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plant is located in the middle of the Ruhr area and has an installed capacity of 511 Megawatts (electrical) . Owned by energy company STEAG, It generates electricity from hard coal and also provides district heating for the Ruhr area. At the same site, a new Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP), Herne 6, with 600 MW capacity has been constructed
