In the east of the district of Tirschenreuth lies a unique pond area, the Tirschenreuther Teichpfanne. Around 2, 500 ponds are lined up next to each other like a string of pearls. Kaolin, which is also used to make porcelain, forms the subsoil for this pond landscape. The pond pan is part of a geological rift valley, without which this amphibious natural landscape would not exist
