Stockholm 1954. A boy is fascinated by the turtles in the shop window of the Axel Cohn shop at Mäster Samuelsgatan 52. A shop that also sold caged birds and aquarium fish. Axel Cohn wrote the book Akvarieboken in 1929, a guide to the selection and care of aquarium fish. Birds fascinated the actually Danish citizen Axel Cohn, who already in the 1890s established his first pet shop in Klarakvarteren in Stockholm. Then he started selling canaries and other exotic birds, which was a novelty at the time. In the 1920s, wild-caught native birds were most commonly used as cage birds. Sweden.
