Kulturpalst from 1969, it is the home venue of the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, the cabaret theatre die Herkuleskeule and the city library and was reopened in 2017 after extensive renovations. The west side of the building is occupied by the 30 metre by 10.5 metre mural Der Weg der roten Fahne. (4) It has been recognised as a cultural monument since 2001. Gerhard Bondzin was commissioned to create the designs in 1968. The mural was realised until 1969 by a working group from the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. The working title was: 849 - 1969: 120 years of the city's revolutionary forces fighting for progress and socialism, Dresden, Saxony, Germany, Europe
