Swedish army during WW2. A soldier is seen holding a pigeon in his hands. War pigeons were used by the swedish military during World War II. The pigeons carried messages from one place to another often a piece of paper in a small metal container attached to it's leg. Homing pigeons were handled and trained by a special unit of swedish military. Homing pigeons played a vital part in the invasion of Normandy as radios could not be used for fear of vital information being intercepted by the enemy. Sweden december 1940.
