I absolutely love sidelight but in a rainforest it has to be just right. When I saw this howler monkey in a tree at the Selva Verde Lodge in Costa Rica's northern lowlands, I couldn't believe my luck. The late afternoon light streaming through the forest was absolutely perfect, illuminating one side of the monkey's face and creating rimlight on the monkey's fur in such a way that the viewer's eye is drawn around the frame is a very close approximation of the golden spiral, one of Da Vinci's favorite compositional arrangements
