Schwarzenberg/Erzgeb. is a large district town in the Erzgebirge district of Saxony. Built in the 12th century as a fortification to protect a trade route, the small mountain town developed into the centre of the dominion of the same name and the later Schwarzenberg district. A reminder of the Free Republic of Schwarzenberg. This is the name that only became common decades after the underlying events for a German territory in the Saxon part of the Erzgebirge around the town, Schwarzenberg, Schwarzenberg, Saxony, Germany, which was unoccupied for 42 days after the surrender of the Wehrmacht on 8 May 1945, Europe
