Gulf of Alaska Seamount Expedition. Paragorgia sclerites seen under the microscope. Sclerites are tiny microscopic bones embedded in the fleshy polyps of octocorals. The large sclerites are called 'girdled spindles', the smaller ones are 'eight radiate'.
