seven sons of William the Pious agreed that only one of them should marry and continue the succession, and they decided to draw lots. This took place in 1592. Into the reputed helmet of their famous ancestor, William the Lion, six silver balls and one goíd ba 11 were placed and drawn for. The prize fell to George, the second youngest, who became grandfather to George I. of England. reproduced from the painting by Eyre Crowe.
