Roller Bridge or inclined plane for transferring vessels from one level of waterway to another. Inclined planes were a cheaper alternative to locks. Water power is being transferred from the waterwheel, R, through gearing to the windlass at H. From 'Architecture Hydraulique' Bernard Forest de Belidor, (Paris, 1737).
