Raven crest (red cedar) from the summit of a pole or beam end. Haida people / Alaska or British Columbia / Northwest Coast of America / 19th century. Raven is a central crest and personality on the Northwest Coast. Human beings were discovered crawling out of a clam shell on the beach after Raven had helped to create the world.
