Clara Butt (1872-1936) celebrated English contralto born at Southwick near Brighton, Sussex. She made her debut in 1892. In 1920 she was created Dame Commander of the British Empire (DBE) for the work she did entertaining the troops during her career. Clara Butt in 1905. From "The Strand Magazine" (London, 1905).
