James II (1633-1701) king of Great Britain and Ireland 1685-1688. Son of Charles I and brother to Charles II. The last Roman Catholic king of England, he fled to France after William of Orange (William III) landed at Torbay. A member of the Stuart dynasty. Wood engraving c1900.
