Breadfuit: Artocarpus incisus. [1823]. Tree with fruit with white pulp like new bread introduced into West Indies as important food crop for plantation slaves. Captain Bligh of HMS 'Bounty' fame was given task of transporting stock plants from the South Sea Islands. From "Nature Displayed" by Simeon Shaw. (London, 1823). Hand coloured engraving.
