Horatio Herbert Kitchener, 1st Earl Kitchener of Khartoum (1850-1916) Irish-born British soldier and statesman. Regained Sudan for Egypt. Commander-in-Chief South Africa: Secretary of State for War at beginning of World War I in 1914. Lost in HMS 'Hampshire'.
