Info+

Napoleon is represented in foot according to the tradition of the official royal portrait. However, he wore a new vestment (1804) and new insignia of power (regalia). The purple colour of the mantle, the laurel crown and the eagle attach it to the Roman Empire, while the sceptre, the hand of justice and the globe are contemporary creations commissioned from the goldsmith Biennais (1764-1843). The Legion d'Honneur replaces the order of the Holy Spirit.
