Rose Mabikwe's funeral

Caption

The grandson of Rose Mabikwe looks on as her coffin is lowered into the grave. Mama Rose Mabikwe was the wife of Tata Dominic Mabikwe. Prior to her death the couple were stalwarts in the Gugulethu community, one of the historic townships of Cape Town. They were also a stable anchor in the community for a new multicultural church called Khanyisa which was officially launched in 1999 after years of ground work. Tata Dominic is still one of the elders at the church which now has a new building on a strip of land sandwiched between Gugulethu and Mannenberg. Over the years the couple had given much to live out their understanding of the Kingdom of God where even in South Africa black and white could come together as brothers and sisters. Khanyisa, which means "light" is a partial fulfilment of that dream.
