Although Admiral Sidney had fought in the English camp of the Napoleon armies, he later
settled in France where he became an active mason. It was there where he sat for this portrait, wearing his dignitary collar of the Grand Orient of France, the Templar Cross of the Order of Palaprat and the 33rd degree sash of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
