End of 19th century
Lithograph (49 cm x 40 cm)
At the time of the Commune government Parisian masonry attempted to hold negotiations, however following hostility from the then provisional president of France, Adolphe Thiers, they proceeded to protest in Paris. Under the III Republic the memory of this imposing demonstration of nearly 10,000 Brothers and Companions with around seventy banners representing their lodges (at the head was the banner belonging to the lodge of "Le Globe de Vincennes" with its motto "Let us love one another") displayed the growing presence of Freemasonry.
