Aluminum pot and lid used by Charles Lindbergh, 1931. This aluminum cooking pot was among the equipment American aviator Charles Lindbergh and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, took on their 1931 flight in the Lockheed Sirius "Tingmissartoq" to the Orient, and 1933 survey flights across the North and South Atlantic. Lodging and meals were provided at the Lindberghs' planned stops, but they still had to consider what they would eat in case of an emergency landing. They took enough canned rations to last them several weeks, but even that might not have been enough. They were traveling over vast expanses of uninhabited territory and there was no telling how long it would take to find the nearest outpost after an emergency landing. If their canned rations ran out, they would need a way to cook whatever food they could find (or catch with their fishing gear). For that reason, they took along this cooking pot plus a frying pan and portable stove. They planned to use gasoline from the plane as fuel for the stove.
