'The Queen's Dining Room at Osborne House', c1899, (1901). The Queens Dining Room was converted into a temporary chapel for the lying in state of Queen Victoria in 1901. Osborne House is a former royal residence in East Cowes, Isle of Wight, built between 1845 and 1851 for Queen Victoria and Prince Albert as a summer home and rural retreat. Prince Albert designed the house himself in the style of an Italian Renaissance palazzo. The builder was Thomas Cubitt (1788-1855). From V.R.I., Her Life and Empire, by The Marquis of Lorne, K.T.
